Master Pest Control Sydney

Flea Pest Control Sydney — Fast, Pet-Safe Flea Treatment for Homes and Businesses

Fleas are one of the most frustrating pests to deal with. DIY products rarely eliminate all fleas and you may find yourself constantly buying products, but the problem never fully going away. They are fast breeders and hide deep within carpets and furniture, making it hard for homeowners to eradicate on their own.

If you’re tired of seeing your pets constantly scratching themselves or finding little bite marks down your arms and legs, then you’ve come to the right place. Masters Pest Control Sydney has over 40 years of experience exterminating fleas for residential and commercial properties, using treatments that are safe for children and pets.

    DIY METHODS

Why Fleas Are So Hard to Get Rid Of

You’re not alone when it comes to having a difficult time exterminating fleas from your property. The main reason why DIY methods, such as flea bombs and sprays, don’t work is that they target adult fleas and work at the surface level. They can successfully work in the short term, however they fail to reach the nitty-gritty areas where eggs and pupae are buried deep: within carpet fibres, furniture cracks and pet bedding.

    Did you know?

Only about 5% of the fleas you see are adult fleas – the other 95% are eggs, larvae and pupae.

The flea lifecycle Egg → Larva → Pupa → Adult.

The pupal cocoon is resistant to most insecticides available at supermarkets.

Within a few days or weeks the remaining eggs, larvae and pupae emerge. This is often why you will notice a reappearance of fleas a few weeks after applying solutions yourself, and feel like you’re going around in circles. To make matters worse, Sydney’s warm climate encourages breeding all year round.

Signs You Have a Flea Infestation

Common Flea Signs Homeowners Should Look For

Pets start biting or licking themselves
You notice small dark specks (flea dirt) on pet bedding, carpets or furniture
Itchy red bites on ankles, legs and lower body - often in clusters or lines.
Seeing small, dark jumping insects on carpets or soft furnishings
Pets developing sore spots or bald patches from an allergic reaction to flea saliva

If you don’t have a pet, fleas can still be brought in from neighbouring properties, adjacent units, bird nests, previous tenants or native wildlife, like possums.

    Our Flea Treatment Process

To find out if Masters Pest Control Sydney is right for you, discuss your situation with our friendly, professional staff.

    1. Contact and Booking

Call us at (02) 8007 4666 or submit a free quote form. Let us know what the situation is with a brief description and book a convenient time for us to have a look, with same-day servicing available.

    2. Property Inspection

A licensed technician inspects the property to identify the severity of the infestation, locate hotspots (pet bedding, carpet edges, furniture cracks) and determine the flea species present.

    3. Targeted Treatment

The technician applies a combination of professional-grade adulticide and insect growth regulator (IGR). The adulticide kills live fleas on contact; the IGR disrupts the flea life cycle by preventing eggs and larvae from developing into adults. This two-pronged approach is what makes professional treatment far more effective than DIY. The treatment is completely child and pet safe and applied by fully licensed NSW Environmental Protection Authority technicians.

    4. Post-treatment Guidance

The technician provides clear instructions on what to do after treatment, including when to vacuum, how to wash pet bedding and the importance of treating pets separately through your vet.

    5. Follow-up and Warranty

Masters provides a 6-month warranty. If fleas return within that period, they come back to re-treat at no charge.

What to Do Before and After Flea Treatment

    Before Treatment

Vacuum carpets, rugs and soft furnishings – this disrupts cocoons and forces pupae to emerge, making them vulnerable to treatment.

Wash pet bedding, throws and cushion covers on the hottest cycle possible.

Clear floors of any cluttered items to help the technician access all areas.

Ensure pets are treated for fleas by the vet the day before or on the same day as treatment.

Mow the lawn, if pets spend time outdoors.

    After Treatment

Stay off treated carpets for the recommended period (usually 2-4 hours until dry).

Don’t vacuum for 7-10 days to allow the IGR to take full effect.

Expect to see some fleas for 2-3 weeks after treatment – this is normal as pupae continue to hatch, but they will be killed by the residual treatment.

Continue regular pet flea treatment as recommended by your vet.

    Flea Control for Homes

Throughout our experience handling residential flea pest control in Sydney, we’ve noticed most homeowners fall into one of three scenarios: Pet-related infestations, fleas in rental properties, or infestations in homes without pets.

    Pet-related Infestations

The most common ways pets get fleas are from interactions with other infested pets or stray animals, or walking through an infested area, such as your backyard or a public outdoor area. Fleas love grass and garden beds, shaded soil, and hiding places like under decks and around kennels.

    Fleas in Rental Properties

Flea eggs can be brought inside a property and lie dormant for weeks or months, hatching when vibrations in their environment trigger a reaction. If your property had previous tenants, you could be on the unfair receiving end of a flea infestation, especially if pets were present.

    Infestations in Homes Without Pets

Not all the blame can be put on pets or previous tenants, sometimes we tread through infested areas or bring in foreign objects that contain eggs or pupae, such as second-hand furniture. In apartments, fleas can spread between units via hallways and common areas.

    End-of-Lease Flea Treatment

If you’re a tenant coming to the end of your lease and plan on moving, you may be required to provide evidence of a professional flea treatment to get your bond back, particularly if you had pets.

We’ve helped many ex-residents by providing a dedicated flea treatment service specifically designed for end-of-lease requirements. It is separate from a full infestation treatment and comes with a certificate that you can provide to your property manager that should handle all of the politics.

For a comprehensive list of our end-of-lease specialty treatments, see end of lease pest control.

    Commercial Flea Control

Fleas in commercial environments often present bigger challenges and consequences than those faced by homeowners. Businesses centred around animals, such as pet boarding facilities and RSPCAs are particularly vulnerable. Other businesses we service, such as childcare centres, hotels, and hospitality venues often have high foot traffic and a variety of visitors, including the occasional pet, which also creates ideal conditions for rapid flea infestations. You have to be on top of your regular preventative treatments or a flea problem can trigger guest complaints, damaging online reviews, health code violations, and serious reputational harm that is difficult or impossible to recover from.

At Masters, we understand that compliance is non-negotiable for your business. Our HACCP and CM3 certifications demonstrate that we operate to the highest industry standards, with treatment protocols designed to meet regulatory requirements. Our technicians work around your operational hours to minimise disruption, delivering thorough flea treatments that protect your staff, customers and reputation.

We’ve worked for some of Sydney’s most recognisable brands — including TikTok, Rydges Hotels, Savills, Frangos, Brasserie Bread, Cushman & Wakefield, and IGA.

When your reputation is on the line, Masters Pest Control Sydney delivers professional flea control services that businesses can rely on. If you need more info about commercial pest management, see our commercial pest control page.

Frequently Asked Questions About Flea Pest Control

How much does flea pest control cost in Sydney?

Flea treatments start from $195 for our standard service. The final cost depends on factors like property size and the severity of your infestation, which we assess before providing a quote.

Is flea treatment safe for pets and children?

Yes, our flea treatments are safe for both children and pets, because our licensed technicians use approved products and methods. For complete comfort, the best practice is to stay off of treated surfaces, like carpets, until they are fully dry, usually within 2–4 hours.

Why am I still seeing fleas after treatment?

This is normal and expected due to the flea life cycle. Pupae protected in cocoons can survive initial treatment and continue to hatch over the next 2–3 weeks, but they’ll soon come into contact with the lasting treatment and be eliminated.

Can you get fleas without having pets?

Yes, fleas can enter homes even without pets. They’re often introduced by previous tenants, pets on neighbouring properties, wildlife - such as possums - or nesting birds. Bird nests can host a number of parasites, see our bird pest control services for related issues.

How long does a flea treatment take?

Most residential flea treatments take between 1–2 hours to complete. Sometimes they can take longer, depending on the size of your property and the severity of the infestation.

Do I need flea treatment for the end of a lease?

If you had pets on the property, you will most likely be required to before the landlord or property manager gives you your bond back. For more information about end-of-lease compliance, see our dedicated page - end of lease pest control.
