The Masters of Pest Control Sydney provides proven safe and effective pest spraying services throughout Sydney. We’re AEPMA members and fully-licensed and certified pest professionals.
EPA
The easiest way to determine whether a pest control company is eco-friendly is by looking at its certifications and licenses. Check whether the company is certified by Australia’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This organisation is responsible for monitoring, assessment, compliance and regulation of pollution from industrial activities into air, water and land.
OHS certification
Also, look for OHS industry safety certification. This recognition of excellence in occupational health and safety practices within one organisation’s workplace.
AEPMA Membership
You should also check whether the pest control company is an Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association member. As Australia’s peak body, AEPMA sets forward the highest standards in pest management.
Bottomline
Pest controlย is necessary to keep our homes from annoying bugs and rodents. However, it’s important to remember that some methods, such as chemical spraying, can harm humans and the environment if not used properly.
You don’t need to use a ton of pest control products to have a pest-free living space. More isn’t always better. Masters Pest Control Sydney provides a solution that requires fewer products while remaining practical. This is why knowing what you need about environmentally friendly pest control will help you make the best pest control decisions for your family.
Chemical sprays are one of the most popular methods to eradicate pests from our homes. The advantage of using chemicals is that they can quickly kill off large numbers of insects at once, which makes them highly effective in large-scale pest control operations. But there are also some drawbacks to using chemical sprays.
While we already know that these pest control substances have varying degrees of effectiveness, most of these substances can be harmful to people and the environment. It is critical to understand that pest control companies should only use environmentally-friendly and toxic chemicals on pests and not on other living creatures in the home, including humans.
For example, many chemical pesticides contain toxins that can harm humans if inhaled or ingested in large amounts. Pest control chemicals, particularly boric acid, can cause diseases or even death in humans. Boric acid tastes sweet to humans as well. Leftovers from pest extermination projects can cause illness and death if consumed by children inadvertently.
Additionally, these chemicals can pollute waterways and contaminate soil when misused. Pesticides can seep into bodies of water and contaminate our water supply. Assume there is excessive pesticide content in bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. In that case, it may harm the people who use it and the ecosystems that live within it.
Are There Alternatives to Chemical Sprays?
There are alternatives to chemical sprays that are much safer for the environment. If you work with an eco-friendly pest control provider, you can discuss pest control options that won’t harm the environment. Natural pest repellents are one option; these products use plant-based oils such as lemon grass oil or peppermint oil to repel pests without harming the environment or humans.
Non-toxic traps are another alternative; they use bait to lure pests into a container where they can be safely removed from your home without using harsh chemicals. Preventive measures such as sealing up cracks and crevices in your home can go a long way towards preventing pests from entering in the first place.

Ants can be very annoying pests. While most ants are fairly harmless, some ant species bite, while some can cause damages to your property. For instance, the common black ant (or also known as sugar ant) is relatively harmless. Meanwhile, carpenter antsย can cause structural damages to a building in a fashion similar to that of termites.
Regardless of which type of ant species infesting your home, there is a way to get rid of them. We will go through some ways to help you remove ants in your home once and for all.
If you need further assistance, you may consult ourย ant controlย experts by callingย (02) 8007 4666!
Follow these steps to stop an ant infestation:
Look for scouting ants.
Identifying the ant species allows you to apply the necessary pest control measures to remove the ants from your home. Look for a scouting ant and place it inside a vial so you can observe and identify what type of ant it is.
Scouting ants are โlone rangersโ that leave the colony to look for food or materials that can be used to build the ant colony.
Ant Baiting
Locate the ant nest.
If you find ants in your home, the first thing you need to do is determine exactly what type of ant you are dealing with. You can do this by locating the ant nest. By checking the ant nest, youโll be able to identify the ant species youโre dealing with. Look for ant trails and follow where the ants go.
Set up ant bait traps.
Once youโve detected the exact location of an ant nest in or around your home, it’s time to set up an ant bait. Ant baiting will help you get rid of ants. These bait traps have pesticides that can kill ants.
What are ant baits?
The most popular and control product isย gel or liquid ant baits.ย You can apply these liquid ant baits around the perimeter of your home. Ants will come out and feed on these baits without knowing that the bait would kill them. The ants will take the bait back to the colony where the rest of the ants, including the queen, could feed on the bait. The ants will all be dead within days.
Inspect the ant nest to see if you can find the queen ant, the biggest ant in the colony. The queen ant is the one reproducing for more ants and building a new colony. Killing the queen will cease the growth of the colony. If you come across a queen ant, eliminate her immediately to ensure the colony won’t double in size.
How can you prevent an ant infestation from coming back?
Seal any cracks in your window sills or in and around your home with silicone caulk. This will help prevent new ants from coming in and starting a new colony in your home.

Mice bait and traps are commonly sold in the market and can be used to catch these rodents. However, using baits or traps does not offer a lasting solution to any rat infestation.
What We Recommend: Complete Rat Pest Control Solution
To stop a rat or mouse infestation permanently, youโll need to implement a strategic pest control process that involves:
1. Exclusion โ Protect your home from a pest invasion by blocking entry points.
2. Restriction โ Prevent pests from breeding and spreading on your property.
3. Extermination โ Let pest control experts remove pests once and for all.
We recommend that you seek the help of professional pest control experts who know how to handle bait systems correctly.ย If handled on your own, baits and harmful pest chemicals can cause harm to children and pets. You may consult our pest control experts byย calling (02) 8007 4666!
Should I book a professional rodent control service?
Rats should not be allowed to grow in number. The further they expand their territory, the worse it will get for you.ย Rats can reproduce very quickly.ย A rodent population can grow to hundreds within weeks. Imagine what it is like living in a house with 100 rats.
Quick Tips – Easy and simple ways to remove mice or rats from your property
Regularly clean cluttered areas in your house like the garage and basement.
Carefully store food, leftovers, and edible products in a sealed container to avoid attracting mice.
Seal any cracks in and around your house.
Get rid of debris and woodpiles that can become a nesting ground for these pests.
Tend to your garden and make sure that plants, shrubs, or trees do not harbor pests.
Use rat bait and rat traps. Baits can be sprinkled around hard-to-reach areas in your house where rats may be hiding.
Getting rid of rats or mice can be a bit tricky. A rodent infestation is not always apparent and can occur without any visible evidence. Mice tend to come out only at night and hide during the day, making it difficult to spot a mice infestation immediately. These pests are unsanitary and may spread harmful diseases. That is why it is important to get rid of this common pest.
Remember that when dealing with rats, or other pests in general, your priority should always be the safety of your family. Although rats are small creatures, this does not mean they are not dangerous.

Bed bugs are active during the night and are difficult to spot. It is important to get rid of these bugs since they can be hazardous to your health and cause skin irritation. These creepy crawlers can pierce through the skin and feed on your blood while you are asleep. Bed bugs are so tiny that it can be hard to detect their presence. Bed bugs can infest your home without you even knowing it. Bed bugs are also known to infest evenย hotelsย and commercial areas.
You can use over-the-counter sprays to try to get rid of bed bugs, but that will not necessarily prevent the insect infestation from coming back. We recommend that you hire pest control experts who can get rid of bed bugs by inspecting every area of your home and stopping bed bug infestations once and for all.
Treat your mattress using over-the-counter bed bug sprays.
Where do bed bugs hide? Inspect your mattress and bed frame to see if it is infested with bed bugs. You can use aerosol sprays to treat your mattress. However, if the bed is heavily infested, we recommend that you immediately dispose of the mattress to avoid allergic reactions from bed bugs that feed humans. Stop the bed bugs from spreading to other areas around your home.
Use insecticides to treat every nook and cranny in your room.
Treating affected areas with chemical insecticides may help kill off bugs. However, using insecticides on your own can be costly and does not guarantee a lasting solution. It is also not safe to spray insecticides around children and pets. Spraying insecticides around your home may endanger the health of your loved ones since chemical residue could stick to your bed and other household items.
Organic Bed Bug Control Methods
Another option is to use organic pest control methods
Organic pest controlย is safer than using chemical insecticides. They do not have any toxic materials that can harm your health. If you are not sure what safe pest control methods to use, we recommend that you consult your local pest controller to provide you with a safe solution.

Here are some simple ways you can prevent and stop a spider infestation.
The most effective way to fight off spiders is by targeting their food source. Look for insects around your home, such as flies, moths and butterflies. To reduce the number of spiders, you have to remove other insects on your property.
Avoid leaving on lights at night as these may attract smaller insects that spiders consider as food. Spiders are predators in nature, and their population size is directly proportional to the amount of available food.
Do not leave clothes that have pockets drying overnight as spiders may creep into the pockets.
Do not leave your shoes outside uncovered.
Cover any cracks and crevices using flexible gap fillers.
Cover vents and weep holes with a copper mesh.
Ensure all windows have fly screens.
Hire aย spider controlย expert to help you get rid of any dangerous spiders.
If you manage to locate a spider, most people will try to crush it. However,ย it is best to keep minimal contact with a dangerous spider to avoid getting bitten.ย You can keep your distance and spray an insecticide to kill the spider. If that fails, what you can do is to get a vacuum and try to capture the spider. Just remember that after you vacuum one up, seal up the bag and stick it in the freezer overnight to kill the spider.
What should you do when you get bitten by a spider?
Wash the injured area with soap and water.
Apply a cold pack for 15 minutes to lessen the pain.
If the person bitten begins to vomit or show signs of severe symptoms, rush the person to a hospital to seek immediate medical attention.
An important tip that may save a life. Remember to do this when someone gets bitten by a spider!
When a spider has bitten you, the first thing you need to do is toย capture the spider. If you have an allergic reaction to the bite, you can bring the spider to the clinic or hospital. The doctors will identify the spider and determine how to treat your bite.
How can I catch a spider?
It may not be easy to capture, but you can try by carefully lowering an inverted glass or jar over them and then sliding a piece of paper underneath the opening to trap it inside. Flip the container back over and tap the paper to make the spider fall to the bottom of the jar/glass. If you do not suffer from any reaction within 6 hours, you have no allergies, and you can let the spider go outside.
What are common spiders in Australia you need to watch out for?
Funnel-web Spider
Sydney funnel-web spider
Funnel-web spiders grow to 10mm-50mm, excluding their legs. Large, black, aggressive, and notable for their large fangs. Both male and female spiders areย venomous. Becauseย of their aggressive behavior, funnel-web spiders have the title โAustralia’s most dangerous spider.โ
Commonly found around the garden, theย Sydney funnel-web spider can be found under logs, fallen leaves, and amongst rocks. During warmer weather, the Australian funnel-web spiders do not usually wander away from their nests, preferring to hide inside their burrows while waiting for prey. Incidences of funnel-web spider bites happen due to the spider hiding out in clothing or on the bed, inadvertently pressed against a person’s skin.
Redback spiders like to build their nests in the dark, undisturbed places close to the ground. Their webs are usually tiny, with a thick den spun into the center in which the spider tends to take up residence during daytime hours.
It is important to note that once you kill aย redback spider, another one will likely take its place very soon. When you find a redback spider, removing any areas that redback spiders may find appealing as a nesting or hiding place is the best thing to do.
Where can you usually find spiders in your home?
Spiders like to hide near the ground. Look in stacks of papers and piles of things, closet floors, clothing, and bedding.
You should also check outdoors. Inspect piles of debris, rocks, logs, inner tubes, tires, ditches, holes and crevices. Those are just some of the places where spiders may be hiding.
Remember that spiders like to nest in dark, undisturbed places.ย Try to look for spiders in any areas that fit that description.

Why is termite baiting so common?
Using aย bait systemย is both quick and easy to do. Many times when you want to get rid of the nasty pests yourself, you will probably turn to a termite bait system. Termite baiting lets you put the pesticide directly to the ground. The termites will ultimately be able to find this bait, feast on it, and then die.
An advantage of using a termite bait system is that it can be used in places where soil pesticides cannot be applied, such as near a well or a swimming pool.

Common Cockroach Removal Methods at Home
Trap cockroaches using baking soda and sugar.ย Mix baking soda and sugar to create a mixture that can reduce the chances of a cockroach invasion in your home. For the mixture to be effective, you need to apply the mixture in hard-to-reach areas such as the back of the oven or refrigerator and any dark and damp areas in the kitchen.
Use boric acid to kill cockroaches.ย Boric acid can be used to kill cockroaches easily. However, it is important to note that boric acid is poisonous and should be handled correctly. Boric acid must be kept out of reach from children.
Spray fabric softener.ย Mix fabric softener with distilled water in a spray bottle. You can spray this fabric softener mixture in cockroach-prone areas to prevent cockroaches. You may also spray this mixture directly onto cockroaches you may find in your home.
Use bay leaves as a cockroach repellant.ย You can crush bay leaves into a powder to repel cockroaches. Cockroaches hate the smell of bay leaves. You can leave bay leaves in and around your kitchen to repel cockroaches. Using bay leaves is a good home cockroach solution since bay leaves are non-toxic and completely safe for children and pets.
Prevent a cockroach infestation with lemon peels.ย Lemons are antipathogenic, which make them effective at repelling cockroaches. You can even mix lemon-infused oil and spray the mixture in and around your home, especially in the kitchen, storage spaces and other cockroach-prone areas.

Making an effort and Spending time
If you are going to treat your house withย termite sprayย on your own, then you have to carve out a big window of time in your schedule. It is not possible for those of us who have dedicated full-time jobs. Also, not many people are fond of ruining their weekend by exhausting themselves in such tiring activities.
Apart from designating your precious time to the activity ofย termite spray, you will have to make arduous efforts to make the exercise effective and fruitful. Many times, termites infest cramped spaces in the house that are hard to access. Treating such places with toxic chemicals even becomes more taxing. If you have decided to go on your own toย treat termite infestation,ย then remember that you will be required to spend considerable time and put in a lot of effort to carry out a successful termite spray in your house.
Unfamiliarity with Termite Species can Make Your Spray Ineffective.
The same type of termites infests not all houses in Australia. Seven different species inflictย damage to buildings in the country. Many house owners can’t differentiate between all these different types of termites necessary to make termite spray effectively. Not all species have identical habitats and might need different pesticide options to kill them.
A professional pest control team knows the details of every species of termite that can infest your house. They identify them and then devise their treatment method accordingly.
You Can’t Control the Environmental Consequences.
If you are doing termite spray treatment on your own, then there are very high chances that you will inadvertently harm the environment with this exercise. Insecticides that are mostly used in DIY termite spray are potentially very harmful to the local environment. If you are spraying the mix of dangerous chemicals in and around your house, it can result in horrible consequences for vegetation, pets and wildlife. Highly toxic pesticides will kill termites in your garden, but they will also kill all the good bugs in your garden that assist in the flourishing of plantations.
On the other hand, pesticide products used by professionals are environment friendly and yet equally effective to control termite infestation. (Read more aboutย eco-friendly pest control solutions.)
Your Personal Safety will be Compromised.
Toxic insecticide products are not bad for other living beings in your house and its vicinity. If you are doingย termite sprayย on your own, you are also putting yourself and your family at unavoidable risk. When you can get rid of termites with professionals’ help, it will be imprudent to try out a termite treatment on your own.
You Might not Have the Right Apparatus.
If you think you can doย termite sprayย on your own by just using a simple spray bottle, you might get disappointed at the end of your termite treatment when you will not get the expected results. Different specialised instruments are used by professionalย termite control Sydneyย personnel, ensuring the effectiveness ofย termite spray. They have injection rods, large tanks with pumps used to doย barrier treatment for termite infestation.
If you have been convinced that it is better to hire professionals than to do termites spray on your own, callย Masters Pest Control Sydney atย (02) 8007 4666
What is acute toxicity?
Acute effects of pesticides are usually more evident and are often reversible if the necessary medical help is provided as soon as possible. Assessing the toxicity of pesticides are commonly done by studying a pesticideโs relative ability to induce acute effects. Acute toxicity can be measured more accurately than delayed effects and its effects are easier to spot.
YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TOXICITY. ASK US ABOUT OUR SAFE PEST CONTROL OPTIONS!
Here are the ways wherein you can be affected by pesticides
Through oral ingestion
Through inhalation
Through skin contact
Eye contact
Acute oral effects involve the oral cavity, throat and stomach, which some types of pesticides can damage.
When accidentally ingested, pesticides will not only burn your digestive system but can be absorbed and carried throughout the human blood system and may cause harm in many different ways.
We cannot underscore enough how harmful pesticides are. By ingesting even a tiny amount of pesticides when wiping your mouth with a contaminated glove, it can make you sick and cause eating and drinking problems.
Types of acute toxicity caused by pesticides
Acute inhalation effects
Difficulty breathing and breathing disorders of the human respiratory system can originate from pesticides. In some cases, it may not directly damage your respiratory system. However, when pesticides are carried rapidly into your blood system, they can spread throughout your whole body and cause extensive damage.
Acute dermal effects
Just a small amount of pesticides can hurt your skin. Some types of pesticides can cause your skin to itch, blister, rupture, or even change colour. Other pesticides can pass through your skin and eyes and get into your body system.
Eye Problem
Some types of pesticides that get into your eyes can cause temporal or constant blindness or serious irritation. The eyes can also serve as an entry point for a pesticide, which can mix into your blood and travel throughout your body, causing irreversible damage.
Delayed effects
Delayed or postponed effects of pesticides are illnesses or injuries that do not manifest within 24 hours after being exposed to pesticides. The term โchronic effectsโ is frequently used to describe delayed effects. Still, it is often applied only for some types of delayed effectsโrepeated exposure to a pesticide or group of them or a combination of pesticides over a long time. A single exposure to a pesticide or their combination causes a damaging reaction which becomes visible much later.
Exposure to Pesticides
Sometimes repeated exposure to a pesticides or family of pesticides will result in a delayed effect. Greater exposure may cause acute effect. A single exposure may cause damage even if the effects do not manifest immediately.
For instance, high exposure to herbicide paraquat may cause severe or fatal lung injury that may not appear for 3 to 14 days after the initial exposure.
Permanent or common exposures over a long period of time make it more likely that all the necessary factors will be present. There may also be changes in genetics that can result in cancer development or other delayed effects.
We’ll help you remove pests without any exposure to harmful chemicals. Book the safest pest control today!
Chronic effects usually take few years to manifest after the first exposure. Some delayed effects which are believed to result from chronic toxicity include the production of tumours (oncogenic effect), occurrence of malignancy or cancer (carcinogenic effect) and changes in the genes or chromosomes (mutagenic effect).
Risks involved when using pesticides
Theย Environmental Protection Agencyย (EPA) will decide what steps need to be made for decreasing or even eliminating the risk because there is obvious evidence that pesticides can produce chronic, developmental, or even reproductive health effects. Further research is still needed to understand the negative effects of pesticides fully. This is why it is good to reduce your exposure to all kinds of pesticides to stay safe.
Allergic reaction caused by pesticides
They have damaging effects due to the bodyโs reaction to a substance where some people may be affected more than others. Substances that cause allergies are called sensitisers.
Some people are sensitive to certain pesticides. You may not immediately have an allergic reaction to pesticides after the first exposure, but that does not guarantee that you won’t have an allergic reaction after subsequent exposures.
What are the side effects?
Systemic effects like asthma, dangerous shock, irritation of the skin (rash, blisters, open sores), nose and eye irritation (itchy, tears in the eyes, sneezing). Some people are more sensitive to chemicals than others and may be prone to having an allergic response to pesticides.
Usually, pesticides have precautionary labels. You can see the warning: โThis product may produce temporary allergic side effects characterised by redness of the eyes, mild bronchial irritation, and redness or rash on exposed skin areas. Persons having allergic reactions should contact a physician.โ
Occupational Health And Safety
A regulation under theย Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), known as theย Hazard Communication Standard (HCS),ย requires employers to secure protection for workers exposed to dangerous chemicals in normal working conditions and emergencies.
Employers are required to:
have a list of the dangerous chemicals in the work environment;
obtain material safety data sheets for all dangerous substances and keep them in a file that is available to all workers
make sure that all containers of dangerous materials are labelled at all times
train all workers on how to handle dangerous substances

Pest Control Methods
There are plenty of devices and techniques on the market used by commercial pest exterminators. Not all tools available over-the-counter are 100% effective. It’s still best to consult professionals to ensure that your business complies with the strict Australian health and sanitation code.
Here are some common pest control tools.
Electronic Fly Killers
It uses UV light that attracts insects. When insects get close to the grill, it electrocutes them. An issue with this device is that the dying insect may spin around and scatter dead insect fragments. Dead insect fragments can fall on food or food handling surfaces, transmitting bacteria. That is not convenient for commercial usage.
Time Release Aerosols
Aerosol contains pyrethrin or synthetic pyrethroid insecticides. It is effective against flying insects, but only in smaller rooms.
Cockroach Bombs
Cockroach bombs release aerosols and an insect growth regulator, which breaks the lifecycle of insects. Cockroaches’ bombs are effective against flying insects. However, cockroach bombs may result in residual chemicals not recommended in commercial premises.
Electromagnetic And Ultrasonic Devices
Electric pest control tools are usually used to control rodents and insects. However, they are not so effective against these pests. Electromagnetic forces donโt repel rodents, and ultrasonic signals donโt penetrate surfaces.
Complete Pest Control Program
Exclusionย โ controls pest entry into buildings. It can be expensive, but our exclusion comes at a fair price and provides long-lasting protection.
Restrictionย โ a method that creates unpleasant conditions for pests to breed and hide. It involves covering sealing gaps between tiles and replacing broken ones, removing food and liquid leftovers, placing food in sealed containers, regular cleaning and sanitation of all surfaces.
Destructionย โ We use safe chemical and non-chemical methods to exterminate pests.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is one of the most effective pest control programs. Using IPM, pest exterminators can remove pests strategically and naturally. IPM involves:
Building maintenance and exclusion practices
Inspection and monitoring
Advice about good housekeeping practices
Physical and chemical control methods
Environment management

5-Step Pest Control Management Checklist
Do you want to protect your business in Sydney fromย cockroaches,ย rats,ย spiders, andย termites? We have created a simpleย 5-step pest control processย that will help you keep pests away from your property. Please continue reading to find out more about our pest control steps.
Step 1: Remove Water Sources
Your first step is to investigate your commercial premises to find where bugs may be entering and hiding. You should also check for possible food and water sources. Youโll want to be sure to check two areas under your sink in the kitchen and behind your refrigerator. If water collects in these areas, this will provide a drinking ground for rats and cockroaches to thrive. Every living rodent or spider needs water. Remove the water source by drying water condensation and getting any leaking pipes fixed.
Step 2: Declutter
If you have piles of unnecessary items lying around your business, itโs time to get rid of them. This may include stacks of old magazines and newspapers, old shoes in the closet, and any other clutter that you donโt need. These things give bugs a place to hide, not to mention material for building nests. It is also harder to clean around areas of clutter, resulting in an increased food supply for many types of insects. Cardboard is lovely to bugs, so get rid of any empty boxes you may have to lie around.
Would you please go through our business and gather up items you no longer use or no longer need? Either sell or donate these things and then organize what belongings you have left. All storage should be at least an inch off the floor and away from the walls. Keep food in tightly latched plastic containers, especially pet food.
Step 3: Clean
In this step, you remove any markings and droppings left by insects and get rid of their food sources. Vacuum, mop, and thoroughly wash all of the cabinets, countertops, and other surfaces in your commercial premises, especially under the refrigerator, oven, and kitchen sink. Use your vacuum attachments to make the job of reaching into those corners and crevices easier. Once your initial cleaning is done, continue to clean regularly to keep your business free of food and water sources. Wipe up crumbs and spills immediately, wash your dirty dishes right away, and empty your garbage before you go to bed. Leave pet bowls empty overnight and refill them in the morning. Keep your drains covered when theyโre not being used as well.
If youโre facing an infestation of cockroaches, be sure to sweep or vacuum under furniture and in other hiding places to remove any dead cockroaches. These can decay into roach dust, which may trigger allergies and asthma attacks in some people.
Step 4: Close Pest Entry Points
Next, you will need to seal the entrances blights use to get into your business. These are commonly located in kitchens and bathrooms, where pipes enter your business. Concentrate your efforts in the kitchen and bathroom, and work your way outward from there. Use cement, plaster, or caulk to seal the cracks and gaps where blights enter and apply weather stripping around your windows and doors.
Step 5: Use Pest Baits
If youโve done all of the above steps and your vermin problem has not been resolved in a matter of weeks, it may be time to use some bug baits. These kill pests by poisoning them and therefore should be used with caution. Only resort to this method once all of the above steps have been taken, and keep the baits out of reach of your pets and children.
